It’s that wit of yours, Mr. Lovett, that sense of the ridiculous that makes you the Dali of singer-songwriters. In “I Love Everybody,” what did you say? “Penguins are so sensitive/To my needs.” That’s just what we expect from you, buddy. And speaking of strange romance, you penned “That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas),” a fast and breathless homage to the wife. They don’t all work out, man. But hey, what’s Julia doing these days, anyway? “Oceans 13”? Ah, you don’t need that: Whether it’s gospel, dusty country or big old swing, you’re a real troubadour. We’ll see you at Innsbrook After Hours, July 28, about 5:30 p.m. or so. Tickets are $20 at 794-6700 or www.innsbrookafterhours.com. And you were right about fat babies after all; they really don’t have pride. — Brandon Reynolds
